MKU Short Pump Owners | Ed and Sun Burhop
Ed and Sun Burhop opened the Montessori Kids Universe of Short Pump in the fall of 2019.
Sun was born a refugee in Thailand, her family was sponsored to the United States when she was a child. She spent most of her life in Milwaukee, WI before relocating to the Short Pump Area in 2017. Sun spent many years in Restaurant and Salon Management prior to owning a salon in Milwaukee for six years. Since moving to Short Pump, she has worked in childcare and has launched the RVA Social Moms Group. Sun is also a board member for the non-profit group Asian American Society of Central Virginia, this group seeks to educate children around Richmond and spread cultural awareness.
Ed grew up in Milwaukee, WI and has worked in finance and accounting for a decade. Ed holds an MBA in Finance from Marquette University, he also holds the designation of Certified Public Accountant in the State of Virginia.
Ed and Sun met in July 2009 and married in November 2012 in Hawaii. Sun gave birth to William in 2014 and Freddie in 2017. They spend their free time with family and friends, as well as volunteering around the community.
In 2018, the Burhop’s realized the demand for a Premium Montessori Curriculum in the Short Pump area and embarked on a mission to spread the teachings of Maria Montessori. The children of Short Pump now have access to a comprehensive Montessori and Reggio education!
MKU Short Pump Head of School | Meagan Bricker
Meagan grew up in Northern Virginia and moved to the Short Pump area in 2011. Meagan received her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Liberty University. She first started in childcare in 2009 when she was an infant teacher to pre-k teacher and grew within administration. She has also worked with special needs children for many years and has a history in behavioral studies training. She has always had a passion for children and helping families have an enjoyable place to come to for learning. Her goal for MKU Short Pump is to always have a safe and fun learning environment for the children. She wants the families to feel their children are receiving the best care and best education they possibly can.
MKU Short Pump | Mrs. Caitlin
Mrs. Caitlin is so excited to be the new Lead Teacher in the pre-primary class at Montessori Kids Universe.
She lives in Short Pump with her husband and her two children. They have been together for almost eleven years now. They have a little girl named Olivia and a baby boy named Xavier. She enjoys reading fiction books, traveling near and far, and spending time with her family.
She received her Associate degree in Early Childhood Education in 2013. She has worked as a Lead Teacher in the Infant/Toddler Rooms at three different star rated centers. She is currently earning her Infant/Toddler (Birth to age 3) Associate Montessori Diploma.
She strives to have a classroom where each child is uniquely cherished, valued, and respected with age and developmentally appropriate activities and curriculum. It is her goal to provide exemplary care and meaningful early learning experiences for every child in her care.
She truly looks forward to building a relationship with you and your family.
MKU Short Pump | Ms. Alyssa
Ms. Alyssa is a born and raised Richmonder and loves to hike around the James River or up in the Blue Ridge Mountains whenever she gets the chance. She first started in childcare in 2006. By 2010, her specialties quickly became tutoring dyslexic and ADD/ADHD children, overnight babysitting, and looking after children with various special needs. Her love, positive outlook and openness provides a wonderful environment in her classroom. Her goal for MKU Short Pump is to provide a safe, comfortable, healthy environment for your children to thrive in and introduce Montessori style learning in a fun way.
