MKU Short Pump Owners - Ed and Sun Burhop

MKU Short Pump Owners. Montessori School. Day Care. Infant Care. Pre-School. Kindergarten.Ed and Sun Burhop are set to open Montessori Kids Universe of Short Pump in October of 2019.

Sun was born a refugee in Thailand, her family was sponsored to the United States when she was a child. She spent most of her life in Milwaukee, WI before relocating to the Short Pump Area in 2017. Sun spent many years in Restaurant and Salon Management prior to owning a salon in Milwaukee for six years. Since moving to Short Pump, she has worked in childcare and has launched the RVA Social Moms Group. Sun is also a board member for the non-profit group Asian American Society of Central Virginia, this group seeks to educate children around Richmond and spread cultural awareness.

Ed grew up in Milwaukee, WI and has worked in finance and accounting for a decade. Ed holds an MBA in Finance from Marquette University, he also holds the designation of Certified Public Accountant in the State of Virginia.

Ed and Sun met in July 2009 and married in November 2012 in Hawaii. Sun gave birth to William in 2014 and Freddie in 2017. They spend their free time with family and friends, as well as volunteering around the community.

In 2018, the Burhop’s realized the demand  for a Premium Montessori Curriculum in the Short Pump area and embarked on a mission to spread the teachings of Maria Montessori. The children of Short Pump now have access to a comprehensive Montessori and Reggio education!

MKU Short Pump Head of School Ms Meagan. Montessori School. Child Care. Day Care. Infant Care. Kindergarten.Meagan grew up in Northern Virginia and Moved to Short Pump area in 2011. Meagan received her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Liberty University. She first started in childcare in 2009 when she was an infant teacher to pre-k teacher and grew within administration. She has also worked with special needs children for many years and has a history in behavioral studies training. She has always had a passion for children and helping families have an enjoyable place to come to for learning. Her goal for MKU Short Pump is to always have a safe and fun learning environment for the children. She wants the families to feel their children are receiving the best care and best education they possibly can.
